Success Stories

Here are a few of the dogs we have assisted throght our program.

Gunner | Kahlua | Micha | Veracity

Gunner

Gunner is a 3 year old Weimaraner who found his way into an animal shelter in Settle Washington. While Gunner was in the shelter, word of his plight made its way too the ears of Mary Banett.

Mary then made her way from her home in Mill Valley, California to meet Gunner for herself. After spending some time with Gunner and falling in love with him, Mary adopted Gunner then flew him down to San Francisco before driving him the rest of the way home.

Mary suffers from cancer and was in part looking for a service dog prospect when she went to meet Gunner for the first time. After returning home, Mary began the task of searching for a service dog trainer. During her search, Mary had five different family members and close friends who were all past customers of Steve Welch point her towards the very trainer that had worked wonders for them and their dogs.

After contacting Steve and talking with him for a bit, Mary made the choice to bring Gunner to Steve’s training facility in El Cariso Village, California.

Gunner is now finished with his first stage of service dog training and Mary couldn’t be happier.

Micha

Hi my name is Pam; I needed a service dog to make my life easier. As many of you know there is a long waiting list to obtain one through the state. So we bought a puppy, a golden retriever we named Dusty.

I checked out a lot of trainers before I found Steve Welch’s Dog Training. I talked to Steve about what my needs were and what his program had to offer that the other trainers what I had spoken too did not.

The one thing that I remember the most is that I felt comfortable with him and the level of experience and his vast source of knowledge with dogs, among other animals.

After talking to him on the phone for a while I felt confident that he was the one to train my Dusty. And anyone who knows me knows I’m really picky….

Dusty went to Steve’s Training Facility then in Fallbrook for 6 months. Talk about trusting someone! Especially when it comes to my baby boy….

Well that was the first step; this is really hard for me to write about…

I just lost my Dusty dog suddenly. He was 10 years old and was the best service dog companion, protector and loving dog there ever was. Thanks to Steve Welch and his training. Dusty served me loyally to the very end.

I would not be on this earth today if it hadn’t been for Dusty watching out for me all ways. One of the times we where out on the lake and I could not make it back to the boat and I was going under when Dusty got to me and pulled me to the ladder. At that point my husband saw what had happened and helped me back into the boat. Then Dusty climbed up the ladder behind me.

Dusty was always there for me. If I fell, he helped me up. If I needed something he got it for me and so much more. Dusty was my angel, and he will be missed by many and will always be in my heart.

Now I have a new baby boy in my life and his name is Micah, and once again I am intrusting him in to the hands of Steve Welch’s Dog Training. This time it is even harder sending him away so soon after losing Dusty and getting Micah. But I know that he is in good hands.

God bless,

Pam, Dusty Dog & Micah Pup.
